Nick Steffey
Stewart H. Steffey, Jr.
Chairman & CEO

Nick, the founding shareholder of NBIC Holdings, Inc., has 35 years of insurance expertise, including the successful building of Liberty International Holdings, Inc. (a subsidiary of the Liberty Mutual Group), serving as founder, president and CEO from 1993 to 1998. He successfully revamped Reinsurance Australia Ltd., while serving as CEO in 1999 and 2000. Nick also worked for 15 years with CIGNA Corporation in various executive capacities and, before that, for 10 years with the Chubb Corporation. He currently serves on the boards of the Pawtucket Foundation, Memorial Hospital and the Pawtucket YMCA. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Pace University and master’s degree in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Geoff’s responsibilities include acquisitions, operations, legal, compliance and administration. He has more than 20 years of financial and insurance experience. He was previously an executive vice president at Liberty Mutual Group with responsibility for managing subsidiaries with premiums exceeding $2.5B, and the M&A group, where he led over two-dozen multi-million and billion dollar transactions. He also was a senior manager with the Connecticut practice of Deloitte and Touche. He currently serves on the boards of R.I. Medical Malpractice J.U.A.; Slater Mill Museum; Friends of Boston College Rugby and Notre Dame Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Siena College; an Executive MBA from University of Michigan; a JD from Western New England College, and a LLM from Boston University School of Law. Geoff also holds a CPA designation.

Sean F. Murphy

Chief Financial Officer

Sean’s responsibilities include financial and fiscal management aspects of company operations. He provides leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting and budgeting efforts of the company. Sean has more than 18 years of experience in the property and casualty industry related to strategic planning, financial management and reporting, actuarial practices and operational excellence. He previously held finance and operational roles with XL Capital, and was the chief financial officer of XL Re America. He also was a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he specialized in the insurance industry practice assisting and auditing top tier public companies in accounting and reporting matters. Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bryant College.

Michael Anselmo

Michael has more than 25 years of insurance industry experience in developing innovative IT solutions and teams that help drive business growth. Prior to joining Narragansett Bay Insurance Company, he was the CIO of Clarendon Insurance Group, Praetorian Financial Group and QBE Americas, and a member of both Hannover Re and QBE’s global CIO team that directed global strategies. Previously Michael was CTO and partner at a software company that supported the NASDAQ and worked with KPMG Insurance Consulting, American International Underwriters and American Re-Insurance. Michael holds a degree in data processing from City University of New York. He also is on the board of Junior Achievement and holds two patents.

Chief Administrative & Compliance Officer

Julie’s responsibilities include compliance, internal audit and governance, and strategic operations. Prior to joining Narragansett Bay Insurance Company, she was the Commissioner of Insurance for the Massachusetts Division of Insurance for five years. She has more than 15 years of regulatory and insurance experience. She held previous positions with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Bearing Point involving a U.S. AID funded project with the Egyptian Insurance Supervisory Authority. She serves as a director on the boards at the Senior Health Plan of Pennsylvania, Atlantic Charter Insurance Company, and RTI Biologics, Inc. She holds bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Assumption College; a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Dallas; a doctoral candidate in biomedical ethics from Georgetown University, and a master’s of business administration from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Rick’s responsibilities include producer management, development of independent agency networks, company branding and advertising, and website management. He has more than 25 years of marketing, sales, and underwriting experience in personal lines insurance. He also has extensive expertise and experience in the establishment of personal lines independent agent distribution networks and corresponding responsibilities in fulfilling revenue goals, underwriting objectives, product development, and overall risk management. Prior to joining Narragansett Bay Insurance Company, he was vice president at Arbella Insurance Group. He’s also held roles as vice president at Atlantic Mutual Companies; assistant vice president at Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and account executive at Aetna Life & Casualty. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baker University, and master’s degree in management from Webster University.

Chief Claims Officer

Bob has more than 23 years of claims operations and strategy experience with Allstate Insurance and PURE High Net Worth Insurance. He has extensive catastrophe management experience involving Hurricane Andrew, the Northridge Earthquake, and multiple wind, hail, flood and freeze catastrophes. He also has experience in institutionalizing best practices aimed at proper and consistent claims performance to achieve the appropriate customer service and financial outcomes. He holds a Six Sigma Black Belt in business defect analysis and improvement, as well as technical credentials and experience in policy interpretation, casualty claim handling, claims law, technical auto, boat and property damage appraisal. Bob has a bachelor’s degree in science from Goddard College.

John Rafferty

Senior Vice President, Underwriting

John’s responsibilities include new state development, licensing, pricing and product development, and project management. He has more than 25 years of industry experience with both foreign and domestic insurance carriers. Prior to joining Narragansett Bay Insurance Company, he worked as a program manager for Beazley where he led the U.S. development team for the Lloyds syndicate. He also previously managed the high net worth client division for an AIG specialty company, and led actuarial and statistical analytical work for Metropolitan Property and Casualty Company. John holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin.

Mark Talerico

Chief Risk and Underwriting Officer

Mark’s responsibilities include risk analytics, rate analytics, portfolio management, and reinsurance. He has more than 25 years of primary insurance company, catastrophe modeling and reinsurance broking experience. He previously led portfolio management initiatives as senior vice president of Marsh & McLennan’s Guy Carpenter subsidiary. He also served as senior vice president of risk analytics for Balboa Insurance Group, led enterprise risk management (ERM) initiative at Risk Management Solutions (RMS, Inc.), served as CFO and partial owner of Pacific Select Property Insurance Company (a California earthquake insurance provider), and as assistant treasury manager of USF&G/St. Paul. Mark holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Towson State University, and a master’s degree in business administration in finance & investment analysis from The George Washington University. He also is a certified public accountant, and a chartered financial analyst.

Jose Trasancos

Senior Vice President, Research and Product Development

Jose has more than 27 years of experience in business analysis, technical rate making and product development with firms such as Hanover Insurance Group and Progressive Corporation. He is responsible for major new product development initiatives that will help drive Narragansett Bay Insurance Company’s growth in the specialized homeowners insurance and services market. He recently served as vice president of Personal Lines Research in the corporate actuarial department at Hanover Insurance Group. During his six years at Hanover, he introduced and implemented significant changes in technology, sales and marketing, and pricing that enhanced the company’s personal lines products. Jose also worked for Progressive Corporation for 18 years in a variety of leadership roles including serving as state manager for Indiana. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Akron. He is currently a member of the Analytics Advisory Board of The SAS® Institute.
